A GOOD PLACE TO START

Before you begin.

Use only a modest amount. Keep grease off keys, pads, reeds and the bore. Remove excess and seek professional care for worn or damaged cork.

  1. Check the cork

Ensure the cork joint is clean and in good condition.

If the cork is worn, loose or damaged, seek professional repair instead of adding more grease.

  2. Apply sparingly

Twist up a little grease and apply a thin layer to the external cork.

Apply only to the external cork joint. Keep grease away from keys, pads, reeds and the bore.

  3. Assemble gently

Follow your instrument maker’s guidance. Remove excess grease.

If assembly still feels unusually tight, do not force it. Check the fit or ask an instrument technician.
