YOUR COMPLETE SLATE CARE KIT
Oil first.
Wax to finish.
Restore the depth with Slate Restoration Oil, then finish with Slate Restoration Wax. Here is how to use both products with your sponge and buffing cloth.

Before you start.
Start with clean, completely dry, cool slate. Test a small, hidden area for compatibility and appearance before treating the whole surface. Read and follow both product labels.
Clean, dry, cool slate
Prepare the slate and your tools
Remove surface dust and dirt, then allow the slate to dry completely. Make sure the surface is cool. Check the finish on a small, hidden area first.
Start with a clean, dry sponge. Fold the grey microfibre cloth into sections and reserve a clean, dry section for the final wax buff.
Slate Restoration Oil + yellow sponge
Apply the oil first
Apply a little Slate Restoration Oil and use the yellow sponge to spread a very thin, even coat over the slate. Work sparingly; avoid leaving pools of oil.
The sponge spreads the product. The cloth is for removing excess and buffing.
Grey microfibre cloth
Let it absorb, then remove the excess
Allow a few minutes for the oil to penetrate, following the bottle label. Buff away all excess with a clean, dry section of the grey cloth.
Do not leave a wet, oily film on the surface.
Oil buffed off → wait 2 hours → wax
Wait two hours after buffing
Wait two hours after buffing off the oil before applying the wax. Check that the slate feels dry, not oily. If it still feels oily, remove the excess and do not wax over it.
Before switching products, clean the sponge and allow it to dry fully. Do not use an oil-soaked or damp sponge to apply wax.
Slate Restoration Wax + clean, dry sponge
Apply a thin coat of wax
Pick up a small amount of Slate Restoration Wax with the clean, fully dry sponge. Spread it into a thin, even layer over the prepared slate.
Use the timing and application directions on the tin. A little goes a long way; avoid a thick coating.
A fresh, dry section of the grey cloth
Buff to your finished shine
Use a clean, dry section of the grey microfibre cloth to buff away excess wax and bring up an even shine. Keep turning to a fresh section as you work.
Keep the oily part of the cloth away from the final wax buff. If no clean section remains, use another clean, dry, lint-free cloth.
THE APPLICATION SPONGE
One sponge.
Two products.
Use the yellow sponge to spread thin, even coats. Clean it and allow it to dry fully before changing from oil to wax. If it is not ready, wait or use another clean, dry applicator.
THE BUFFING CLOTH
Fold. Turn.
Buff.
Fold the grey microfibre cloth into sections before starting. Use one part for excess oil and keep a clean, dry section for the final wax buff. Turn to a fresh section as you work.
Oil and wax can make surfaces slippery. Remove excess thoroughly and avoid surfaces where a wax finish could create a slip hazard. Always follow both labels and the surface or appliance maker's guidance.
A LITTLE GUIDANCE
Good to know.
When does the two-hour wait start?
Start the two-hour wait after you have buffed off the excess oil, not when you first apply it. Before waxing, the slate should feel dry, not oily.
Can I use the same sponge for both products?
Yes. Clean the sponge and let it dry fully before changing from oil to wax. If it is still oily or damp, wait until it is clean and dry, or use another clean, dry applicator.
How do I keep the cloth ready for the final buff?
Fold it into sections before you start. Use one section to remove excess oil and reserve a clean, dry section for the wax. Refold as you work so you do not spread oil back over the waxed surface.
What if the slate still feels greasy?
Do not cover an oily surface with wax. Remove remaining excess oil with a clean, dry cloth and only continue when the surface feels dry. If you are unsure, contact us before applying more product.
Can I use the kit on a warm hearth?
Use it only on a cool surface. Keep the appliance off during application and follow both product labels and the appliance maker's guidance before returning it to use.
How long will the shine last?
It depends on your slate, how it is used and how it is cleaned. Refresh the wax when the surface looks dull, following the tin directions.
