A GOOD PLACE TO START

Before you begin.

Check compatibility with the existing finish and test a hidden area. Polishing may deepen the appearance of the grain and change its sheen.

  1. Prepare

Dust and clean the surface, then allow it to dry.

Check compatibility with the existing finish and test a hidden area before treating the whole piece.

  2. Follow the grain

Apply a thin coat with a soft cloth, working with the grain.

Use small amounts and spread them well. Avoid a thick coating or build-up around details.

  3. Let it settle

Follow the settling time stated on the label.

Do not add more polish while the surface still feels coated. Follow your tin rather than a universal waiting time.

  4. Buff

Use a separate clean, dry cloth to remove excess and reveal an even sheen.

Turn to a fresh section as you work. Clear polish can still change the appearance of the grain and sheen.

A LITTLE GUIDANCE

Good to know.

Does clear finish mean the colour stays the same?

Clear describes the finish, not a guarantee of unchanged appearance. Polishing can deepen the grain and alter sheen. Test first.

Will it repair scratches or damaged varnish?

It is a furniture-care polish for refreshing appearance and finish, not a filler or a repair for deep scratches, cracks, peeling coatings or water damage.

How long should I wait before buffing?

Follow the timing on the product label. Use a light coat and buff away excess.
